New York, NY, August 23, 2006 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today slammed the human rights group Amnesty International for its report on the Israeli-Hezbollah war, calling it “bigoted, biased, and borderline anti-Semitic.”

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director called the Amnesty International report, “bigoted, biased, and borderline anti-Semitic.” Currently in Israel visiting devastated areas in the north, Mr. Foxman said, “I see deliberate destruction of Israeli homes, hospitals, and other institutions.”

He added that, “Amnesty International has a longstanding pattern of rushing to judgment to stigmatize Israel. They chose to ignore the fact that, after Hezbollah’s unprovoked attack on Israeli soil, Israel did not deliberately strike civilian centers, while Hezbollah did, killing and maiming Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs and destroying their homes and businesses.”

Mr. Foxman went on to say that, “One would have hoped that Amnesty International would have started with the victim, Israel, and conducted their study here first reporting on violations of international law and war crimes committed by Hezbollah. When it comes to Israel, Amnesty International has an anti-Israel bias.”

Foxman is using the big lie technique. Israel’s attack on Lebanon was a war-crime and racist never mind AI’s report being “borderline anti-Semitic. This term has been used by the architects of Israeli racism and oppression so often that it is now meaningless. Foxman would have been better of dealing with the substance of the report rather than appealing to emotion and distortions of known truths.

While Foxman sees deliberate destruction in Israel, what a surprise, I see deliberate destruction in Lebanon, cluster bombs, white phosphorous and “precision” guided missiles weapons were used to kill 1300 innocent Lebanese civilians, a third of which were children. Israel deliberately targetted and destroyed 35,000 homes. More than 20 gas and fuel stations were destroyed, food industry factories including milk factories were hit, hospitals, churches, mosques, schools, ambulances, and UN bases were bombed, while more than 70 bridges and 94 roads were destroyed.

Israeli Assault on Lebanon

Amnesty chose to ignore the “fact” that Hizbullah struck Israeli on Israeli soil because Hizbullah captured the IDF troops on Lebanese territory near Aita al Shaab. A fact that Foxman would like the world to forget. Using this as a pretext Israel attacked Lebanon in the most shocking and brutal way. It can only be compared to Fallujah and Guernica for its savagery. At which point Hizbullah launched their rockets.

Israel, the world’s fourth strongest military armed to the teeth with American high tech weaponry is hardly a victim! The victims were the defenceless people of Lebanon. Was such death and destruction avoidable? There had been many border incursions by both sides for years on the border so why did Israel wait until this moment.
